Our Contribution

The 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are on the UN agenda for a more sustainable future for all, until 2030. Metlen has aligned its policy with the SDGs, which are used by the company as a common basis for dialogue and cooperation with its key Stakeholder groups, defining, at the same time, its Corporate Responsibility priorities for the next years.

(1.2) We contribute to reducing the number of men, women and children living in poverty in all its forms.
(1.5) We contribute to reducing the exposure and vulnerability of the poor and those in vulnerable situations to economic and social problems.

The contribution of MYTILINEOS

  • We support, through the direct and indirect jobs we maintain, the income of more than 90,000 people 1 on an annual basis.
  • Considering the reduction of unemployment as a key factor in poverty alleviation, we have created , within the framework of our activity, ~ 2,100 new jobs.
  • We support and cover daily needs, on an annual basis, 1.406 families facing serious financial and health problems in our local communities.
  • We gave access to the labor market to 224 young unemployed engineers through the implementation of special vocational training and skills development programs.
  • In addition, through 6 central social programs and actions we implemented, we mitigated the consequences of poverty for more than 2,954 people (adults and children) who are in economic difficulty and social exclusion, excluding any form of discrimination.

(2.1) We contribute to ensuring access to adequate nutritious food throughout the year for children in vulnerable situations.

(2.2) We contribute to the reduction of all forms of malnutrition, we address the nutritional needs of children and adolescents.

The contribution of MYTILINEOS

  • We reduced food insecurity indicators in 80 schools in the prefectures of Attica, Viotia, Magnesia, Kavala, Trikala and Fokida, offering 196,968 warm and healthy school meals to 2,076 students
  • We provided breakfast to 9,159 children in more than 25 soup kitchens in Athens, offering 108,924 glasses of milk with cereals. In addition, we provided 424,417 portions of food and milk to 56,171 of our fellow human beings.
  • We informed and sensitized 4,400 students of 65 schools throughout Greece on the issue of food waste, volunteerism and social contribution
  • We contributed to the mitigation of the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic by ensuring the feeding of 80 vulnerable people (adults and children) in the Prefecture of Attica.
  • We ensured the capacity to feed 817 children living in severe poverty  annually by building a new dining hall and upgrading the restaurant equipment of St. Nicolas Preparatory School, Ghana, as well as distributing food to children's homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

(3.2) We contribute to to reducing deaths of newborns and children under the age of five.
(3.6) We contribute to reducing the number of deaths due to road traffic injuries.
(3.7) We help to avoid deaths and diseases due to hazardous chemicals as well as air, water and soil pollution and contamination.

  • We have completed the upgrading/creation of 20 Emergency Departments, offering a total of 253 machines for the treatment of pediatric injuries in Public Hospitals and Health Centers of the country. More than 115,274 children benefited directly on an annual basis.
  • We upgraded the medical equipment of the University Hospital, covering the hospitalization needs of 959 newborns.
  • We actively support information campaigns in schools and Local Health Units throughout Greece, having informed 18,406 children, parents and teachers from 2018 until today with the publication of specialized leaflets annually ("Safety at School", "Safety at Home", "Sports with Safety", "Beware of Burns", "Attention to the choice of toys", "Safety in the Playground", "Swimming saves lives", "Summer & holidays safely" and "Respect for Animals"). Specifically, 200,102 forms have been distributed  to date in hospitals and schools.
  • We supported the 21st SIS World Congress on Breast Cancer and Breast Healthcare, in which more than 400 professors of various disciplines participated and came into contact with 162 leading scientists from around the world, and were informed about all issues and challenges in the field of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment,  as well as new practices to protect breast health.
  • We covered the costs of hospitalization, 10 required surgeries of children, financially vulnerable families in need of immediate cardiac surgery.
  • We provided access to free diagnostic tests (blood & gynecological) to 156 women aged 45+, who come from vulnerable groups, in order to maintain their good health.
  • We contributed to mitigating the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic by offering 3,400 masks, 30,000 gloves and 60 liters of antiseptic to 156 people in 3 Elderly Care Units.
  • We performed 1,201 dental examinations on 450 children from vulnerable social groups, of which 388 children were in need of dental interventions.
  • We fulfilled the wishes of 4 vulnerable children, aiming to regain physical and emotional strength to cope with health problems.
  • We implemented specialized training programs for Safe Driving with direct beneficiaries more than 700 people (employees, professional drivers and students of our local communities).
  • We recorded zero incidents of degradation of the natural environment and as a result zero incidents of occupational diseases from our production activity.

(4.1) We contribute to ensuring that all boys and girls complete primary education equally and qualitatively.
(4.3) We contribute to equal access for all to quality, technical and vocational training as well as access to higher education.
(4.4) Contribute to increasing the number of young people who have the appropriate vocational and technical skills by giving them access to employment space, in decent jobs.
(4.b) We contribute to increasing the number of scholarships thus encouraging students to attend higher education and participate in vocational training programmes in various fields.

  • We have created 427 new quality vocational training and traineeship positions.
  • We equipped 70 schools in the Greek periphery with modern technological equipment, upgrading the educational process for more than 4,100 students and teachers.
  • We offered the opportunity to 12,772 students of 125 schools across Greece, using technology and with the help of 241 teachers, through live mentoring, to communicate with successful professionals (563 mentors) and receive answers to questions about their future through 1,080 group sessions.
  • We offered 113 scholarships to the institutions of the Summer School of Youth Entrepreneurship of AUEB and the Scholarship Program of the University of Athens.
  • We supported S.T.E.M. Education, offering a total of 159 packages with educational robotics equipment and educational material "Renewable Energy Sources" to a corresponding number of schools that cannot buy.
  • With the implementation of 5 central social programs, #skills4engineers,#HoMellon,#Mellonabilities,#Greenmakers and #FemStem we enhanced the professional skills of 533 people.
  • We supported with 100 tablets 21 secondary schools in the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania , contributing to the mitigation of the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • We created 15 school libraries in primary and secondary schools in the prefectures of Viotia, Magnesia and Preveza for the benefit of 2,198 students and 251 teachers.
  • For three years, we supported 56 students from vulnerable social groups with the aim of completing their basic education through the School Dropout program, "I AM INSIDE".
  • We also supported 3 Educational Robotics initiatives, giving the opportunity to more than 4,000 students to demonstrate creativity, teamwork and ingenuity, utilizing educational robotics equipment.
  • We completedthe construction of a secondary school inNigeria, and the supply of modern classroom equipment to a primary school in Uganda, giving access to education to more than 1,000 children annually.

(5.1) We support an end to all forms of discrimination against women anywhere.

  • We gave the opportunity to 30 women graduates of higher and higher schools to utilize their potential and skills through training and empowerment in STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering & Math).
  • We oppose any form of discrimination against women and we certify this with specific indicators:

  • We protect the water resources we use in our activity from any recognized risk of pollution.
  • Through our responsible practices, the main sources of water abstraction we use (sea, groundwater, public services) are not affected by factors such as: the reduction of water in the aquifer, the lack of water, the limitation of the ability of water-related ecosystems to perform their functions and the reduction of available drinking water.
  • We responsibly manage a controlled networkof shallow boreholesthat allowsthe renewal of the amount of pumped water in a natural way (renewable sources).
  • We ensure the availability and sustainable management of water, as well as sanitation facilities, for almost 2,000 citizens of the local settlements of Aspra Spitia, Antikira and Ag. Nikolaos in the prefecture of Viotia, supplying more than 1 million m3 of drinking water on an annual basis.
  • Through the process of reusing water discharges in our power plants, in the energy complex of Ag. Nikolaos, Viotia, we avoid, on an annual basis, the additional pumping of more than 11 million m3 of seawater.
  • In the Metallurgy Sector, a special program is being implemented to reduce the consumption of industrial and drinking water with particularly positive results.

(7.1) Contribute to ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services.
(7.2) We contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix.

(7.a) We strengthen access to clean research and energy technology by promoting renewable forms of energy, also investment in energy infrastructure and energy technology.

  • Market share in the retail energy market:
    2016: 2.69% - 2023: 13.50% (~11% increase).
  • MYTILINEOS' Energy Division, with the constant priority of creating added value for its customers, is close to the developments of the global energy market, strategically choosing to participate in international initiatives that elaborate new energy services. In 2022, the Section participated in more than 10 research projects.
  • Portfolio of Renewable Energy Sources projects in operation:
    2016: 130 MW - 2023: 845 MW (550% increase).
  • Energy production from Renewable Energy Sources:
    2016: 175,530 MWh - 2023: 1,118,878 MWh, (an increase of 207%) resulting in the avoidance in 2023 of almost 596,621 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

(8.1) We contribute to the economic development of the country.
(8.4) We separate our economic growth from environmental degradation, we promote sustainable production and consumption.

  • From our total activity, we create added value of €2.16 billion, equal to 1.21% of the country's GDP. (GDP 2021: €178,900 million. - Source Eurostat)
  • Zero incidents of degradation of the natural environment from our production activity. Implementation of responsible and sustainable practices in mining activity.
  • Our labour practices comply as a minimum with all applicable legislation, with respect for the fundamental principles as defined in the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
  • We created around 907 new jobs for young people <30 years old.
  • We have further reduced the extremely low share of part-time workers.

  • Full compliance with national legislation in each country of activity and implementation of commitments we have undertaken towards international initiatives of Sustainable Development (UN Global Compact) result in the avoidance of conditions of incidents of child and forced labor.

  • Number of direct employees:
    2016: 1,888 - 2023: 4,046 (up 114%).
  • Implementation of the paid practical training program "ENGINEERS IN PRACTICE". A model and high-level "School of Engineering", which steadily supplies the Greek industry and entrepreneurship with talented and capable executives.
  • In the Metallurgy Sector, the investment of the new modern alumina calcination unit worth €15 million to replace finite technology and high thermal consumption units was completed.
  • Pioneering 12-year collaboration between MYTILINEOS' Metallurgy Business Unit and General Electric (GE) for the implementation of the world' s first Digital Smelter, an innovative digital solution in the electrolysis process aimed at optimizing productivity and reducing energy costs.

(10.2) We contribute to the empowerment and promotion of social, economic and political inclusion of all, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, nationality, origin, religion or economic or other status.

  • We have strengthened the development of professional skills and special personal gifts  of 50 people with disabilities (motor, vision, acoustics) so that they can integrate and develop in the labor market.
  • We gave the opportunity to 4,849 students in 79 primary  and secondary schools of Attica & Viotia, to conduct an open dialogue of awareness with speakers of the organization with disabilities aiming at the acceptance of diversity.
  • We contributed to the physical rehabilitation of a total of 31 children with cerebral palsy and associated problems, through therapeutic riding and an all-day rehabilitation program, creative activities & alternative incremental communication.
  • We constructed a therapeutic garden for at least 330 beneficiaries with developmental mental disorders and autism spectrum disorders for their participation in therapeutic gardening programs.
  • We ensured the accessibility of the Day Center for Psychosocial Interventions in the Community by providing an electrically powered portable stairlift, benefiting 234 people with physical disabilities.
  • We gave the opportunity to915 students, teachers, students and visitors of the Museum, through experiential contact with blindness and enriched, educational educational activities, to be informed and sensitized about visual impairment.
  • We gave the opportunity to 377 beneficiaries with visual impairments to become familiar with technology, utilizing means and tools tailored to their graded needs, ensuring equal access to new technologies.

(11.1) We contribute to the strengthening of local infrastructure.
(11.4) We contribute to the effort for protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage.

  • Investments over €12 million to meet needs related to local infrastructure & services with direct public benefit. (supply of vehicles to municipalities, renovation of infrastructure for access to playgrounds, churches and municipal libraries, asphalt paving and maintenance of central and rural roads as well as repairs to school buildings, financing of studies for the modernization of a biological treatment plant, water supply of a settlement, construction of a transport hub of local communities, etc.)
  • We supported studies concerning Programs  of Cultural Routes & Archaeological Parks, which are gradually expanding to almost all Regions of the country.
  • We proceeded to the energy upgrade of the Gymnasium-Lyceum school complex and the adjacent indoor gym of the Municipal Community of the Municipality of Rafina - Pikermi, where the educational needs and sports activities of 1,700 children from the fire-stricken areas of the Municipality and the neighboring Municipalities are housed.
  • We donated 6 autonomous fire trucks to the Hellenic Fire Brigade Headquarters, enhancing the operational readiness of the service.
  • As part of the national effort to extinguish the fires that hit the country in the summer of 2021, we strengthened the air fleet by providing the Greek State with 4 high-quality BELL 214BI helicopters for 60 days.

(12.4) We contribute to the proper management of all waste in accordance with internationally agreed frameworks.

  • We participate, through the Metallurgy Division, in 23 European research projects, some of which concern the development of technologies that will allow the holistic utilization of bauxite residues.
  • We drastically increased the amount of waste from our activity that was recycled, reused or recovered in other industrial uses:
    2016: 36.000 tonnes - 2022: 420,904 tonnes (Increase 1,069%)

(13.1) We strengthen the adaptive capacity of our activity to natural disasters and risks arising from climate change.
(13.3) We contribute to improving education and information on issues related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, impact reduction and early warning in cases of natural disasters.

  • We have set demanding targets to reduce our carbon footprint by -30% and decarbonize 50%
    (compared to 2019 data) of our Business Sectors by 2030.
  • We participate in the international Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as a member of Production & Manufacturing. We obtained the relevant certification by incorporating the commitments of Sustainable Development into the value chain of the Metallurgy Sector.
  • We participated for the third consecutive year in the "CDP Climate Change"  Sustainable Development Index, providing extensive information to our Social Partners on our approach to adaptation and tackling climate change.
  • We implemented a special programme: "Information and sensitization of the school community on forest fire prevention and response, forest protection policies and practices", in a total  of 52 primary and secondary schools in the prefectures of Attica, Viotia & Fokida with direct beneficiaries about 1,586 students and 102 teachers.
  • We informed 2,357 students and teachers of 20 schools in the Prefecture of Viotia on waste prevention, reuse and recycling issues, in the context of harmonization with the strategies of the European Union and Greece for the Circular Economy.
  • We gave the opportunity to 723 students of 15 schools in the Prefecture of Attica to take part in environmental education, to be informed about the problems facing the planet and the ways to solve them.
  • We reforested and planted trees in areas affected by fires, benefiting more than 3,000 citizens of the wider region.
  • We implemented an environmental program in 14 schools in the Prefectures of Attica and Viotia, informing 1,305 students and teachers about beekeeping, in order to get to know the relationship between bees and the environment.

(14.1) We contribute to the prevention of all forms of marine pollution, especially from industrial activities.

  • "Regarding the use and discharge of seawater in our activities (cooling process of the combined heat and power plant of the Metallurgy Sector), the relevant legislative provisions that define the framework of avoiding any environmental impact are strictly observed. In addition, since 2012, in collaboration with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), annual studies have been carried out to monitor the status of Antikyra Bay under the applicable environmental conditions. The results of the studies are communicated annually as provided to the competent authorities (RIS and Water Directorate of the Decentralized Region). The conclusions of recent studies (2019-2022) show stable ecological status with improvement trends at several observation stations. These studies will continue for at least another five years."

(15.1) We contribute to the protection of natural habitats and the prevention of biodiversity loss.

  • No incidents of biodiversity degradation have been recorded from the Company's activities, while the planned actions for the restoration of exploitable areas from its activity are implemented on an annual basis.
  • We have restored 86.9%, increased by 6.9% from 2016, the entire exploitable area in the context of our mining activity.
  • We have reforested 1,018.5 acres, as part of the construction and operation of RES units. At the same time, we carry out annual monitoring studies of avifauna, while the movement of animals is not hindered as long as there is no fencing and disturbance to birds is also negligible, while where necessary, technical protection systems are installed.

(16.2) We contribute to the reduction of all forms of corruption and bribery.
(16.5) We contribute to the end of child abuse and exploitation.

  • We apply ZERO TOLERANCE to all forms of corruption and bribery throughout our activity.
  • We implemented two trainings for staff: the training on the protection of personal data (GDPR) and the training on the Code of Professional Conduct of MYTILINEOS.
  • We implemented 12 informative seminars in 10 cities of Greece on "Protect your Child from Cybercrime" with direct beneficiaries 3,166 parents & children.
  • We supported the Council of Europe's "One in Five" campaign  in Greece to end child sexual abuse. We undertook the reproduction of 20,000 copies of DVDs with the information material* of the initiative. The campaign visited more than 85 municipalities and 50 cities across the country and was hosted on 164 TV shows.

  • We maintain constant cooperation with more than 20 voluntary and Non-Governmental Organizations for the implementation of our social policy.
  • Participation in 12 international ESG raters aiming at evaluation, good practices and continuous improvement.
  • a 3-year cooperation program with the Municipality of Livadea (community service program (2016-2018) offering material and financial resources for the renovation of public infrastructure, while at the same time  promoting the employment of almost 90 unemployed fellow citizens.

  • We have completed the upgrading/creation of 20 Emergency Departments, offering a total of 253 machines for the treatment of pediatric injuries in Public Hospitals and Health Centers of the country. More than 115,274 children benefited directly on an annual basis.
  • We upgraded the medical equipment of the University Hospital, covering the hospitalization needs of 959 newborns.
  • We actively support information campaigns in schools and Local Health Units throughout Greece, having informed 18,406 children, parents and teachers from 2018 until today with the publication of specialized leaflets annually ("Safety at School", "Safety at Home", "Sports with Safety", "Beware of Burns", "Attention to the choice of toys", "Safety in the Playground", "Swimming saves lives", "Summer & holidays safely" and "Respect for Animals"). Specifically, 200,102 forms have been distributed  to date in hospitals and schools.
  • We supported the 21st SIS World Congress on Breast Cancer and Breast Healthcare, in which more than 400 professors of various disciplines participated and came into contact with 162 leading scientists from around the world, and were informed about all issues and challenges in the field of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment,  as well as new practices to protect breast health.
  • We covered the costs of hospitalization, 10 required surgeries of children, financially vulnerable families in need of immediate cardiac surgery.
  • We provided access to free diagnostic tests (blood & gynecological) to 156 women aged 45+, who come from vulnerable groups, in order to maintain their good health.
  • We contributed to mitigating the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic by offering 3,400 masks, 30,000 gloves and 60 liters of antiseptic to 156 people in 3 Elderly Care Units.
  • We performed 1,201 dental examinations on 450 children from vulnerable social groups, of which 388 children were in need of dental interventions.
  • We fulfilled the wishes of 4 vulnerable children, aiming to regain physical and emotional strength to cope with health problems.
  • We implemented specialized training programs for Safe Driving with direct beneficiaries more than 700 people (employees, professional drivers and students of our local communities).
  • We recorded zero incidents of degradation of the natural environment and as a result zero incidents of occupational diseases from our production activity.

(4.1) We contribute to ensuring that all boys and girls complete primary education equally and qualitatively.
(4.3) We contribute to equal access for all to quality, technical and vocational training as well as access to higher education.
(4.4) Contribute to increasing the number of young people who have the appropriate vocational and technical skills by giving them access to employment space, in decent jobs.
(4.b) We contribute to increasing the number of scholarships thus encouraging students to attend higher education and participate in vocational training programmes in various fields.

  • We have created 427 new quality vocational training and traineeship positions.
  • We equipped 70 schools in the Greek periphery with modern technological equipment, upgrading the educational process for more than 4,100 students and teachers.
  • We offered the opportunity to 12,772 students of 125 schools across Greece, using technology and with the help of 241 teachers, through live mentoring, to communicate with successful professionals (563 mentors) and receive answers to questions about their future through 1,080 group sessions.
  • We offered 113 scholarships to the institutions of the Summer School of Youth Entrepreneurship of AUEB and the Scholarship Program of the University of Athens.
  • We supported S.T.E.M. Education, offering a total of 159 packages with educational robotics equipment and educational material "Renewable Energy Sources" to a corresponding number of schools that cannot buy.
  • With the implementation of 5 central social programs, #skills4engineers,#HoMellon,#Mellonabilities,#Greenmakers and #FemStem we enhanced the professional skills of 533 people.
  • We supported with 100 tablets 21 secondary schools in the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania , contributing to the mitigation of the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • We created 15 school libraries in primary and secondary schools in the prefectures of Viotia, Magnesia and Preveza for the benefit of 2,198 students and 251 teachers.
  • For three years, we supported 56 students from vulnerable social groups with the aim of completing their basic education through the School Dropout program, "I AM INSIDE".
  • We also supported 3 Educational Robotics initiatives, giving the opportunity to more than 4,000 students to demonstrate creativity, teamwork and ingenuity, utilizing educational robotics equipment.
  • We completedthe construction of a secondary school inNigeria, and the supply of modern classroom equipment to a primary school in Uganda, giving access to education to more than 1,000 children annually.

  • We protect the water resources we use in our activity from any recognized risk of pollution.
  • Through our responsible practices, the main sources of water abstraction we use (sea, groundwater, public services) are not affected by factors such as: the reduction of water in the aquifer, the lack of water, the limitation of the ability of water-related ecosystems to perform their functions and the reduction of available drinking water.
  • We responsibly manage a controlled networkof shallow boreholesthat allowsthe renewal of the amount of pumped water in a natural way (renewable sources).
  • We ensure the availability and sustainable management of water, as well as sanitation facilities, for almost 2,000 citizens of the local settlements of Aspra Spitia, Antikira and Ag. Nikolaos in the prefecture of Viotia, supplying more than 1 million m3 of drinking water on an annual basis.
  • Through the process of reusing water discharges in our power plants, in the energy complex of Ag. Nikolaos, Viotia, we avoid, on an annual basis, the additional pumping of more than 11 million m3 of seawater.
  • In the Metallurgy Sector, a special program is being implemented to reduce the consumption of industrial and drinking water with particularly positive results.

    2016: 2.69% - 2023: 13.50% (~11% increase).
  • MYTILINEOS' Energy Division, with the constant priority of creating added value for its customers, is close to the developments of the global energy market, strategically choosing to participate in international initiatives that elaborate new energy services. In 2022, the Section participated in more than 10 research projects.
  • Portfolio of Renewable Energy Sources projects in operation:
    2016: 130 MW - 2023: 845 MW (550% increase).
  • Energy production from Renewable Energy Sources:
    2016: 175,530 MWh - 2023: 1,118,878 MWh, (an increase of 207%) resulting in the avoidance in 2023 of almost 596,621 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

  • From our total activity, we create added value of €2.16 billion, equal to 1.21% of the country's GDP. (GDP 2021: €178,900 million. - Source Eurostat)
  • Zero incidents of degradation of the natural environment from our production activity. Implementation of responsible and sustainable practices in mining activity.
  • Our labour practices comply as a minimum with all applicable legislation, with respect for the fundamental principles as defined in the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
  • We created around 907 new jobs for young people <30 years old.
  • We have further reduced the extremely low share of part-time workers.

  • Number of direct employees:
    2016: 1,888 - 2023: 4,046 (up 114%).
  • Implementation of the paid practical training program "ENGINEERS IN PRACTICE". A model and high-level "School of Engineering", which steadily supplies the Greek industry and entrepreneurship with talented and capable executives.
  • In the Metallurgy Sector, the investment of the new modern alumina calcination unit worth €15 million to replace finite technology and high thermal consumption units was completed.
  • Pioneering 12-year collaboration between MYTILINEOS' Metallurgy Business Unit and General Electric (GE) for the implementation of the world' s first Digital Smelter, an innovative digital solution in the electrolysis process aimed at optimizing productivity and reducing energy costs.

  • We have strengthened the development of professional skills and special personal gifts  of 50 people with disabilities (motor, vision, acoustics) so that they can integrate and develop in the labor market.
  • We gave the opportunity to 4,849 students in 79 primary  and secondary schools of Attica & Viotia, to conduct an open dialogue of awareness with speakers of the organization with disabilities aiming at the acceptance of diversity.
  • We contributed to the physical rehabilitation of a total of 31 children with cerebral palsy and associated problems, through therapeutic riding and an all-day rehabilitation program, creative activities & alternative incremental communication.
  • We constructed a therapeutic garden for at least 330 beneficiaries with developmental mental disorders and autism spectrum disorders for their participation in therapeutic gardening programs.
  • We ensured the accessibility of the Day Center for Psychosocial Interventions in the Community by providing an electrically powered portable stairlift, benefiting 234 people with physical disabilities.
  • We gave the opportunity to915 students, teachers, students and visitors of the Museum, through experiential contact with blindness and enriched, educational educational activities, to be informed and sensitized about visual impairment.
  • We gave the opportunity to 377 beneficiaries with visual impairments to become familiar with technology, utilizing means and tools tailored to their graded needs, ensuring equal access to new technologies.

  • Investments over €12 million to meet needs related to local infrastructure & services with direct public benefit. (supply of vehicles to municipalities, renovation of infrastructure for access to playgrounds, churches and municipal libraries, asphalt paving and maintenance of central and rural roads as well as repairs to school buildings, financing of studies for the modernization of a biological treatment plant, water supply of a settlement, construction of a transport hub of local communities, etc.)
  • We supported studies concerning Programs  of Cultural Routes & Archaeological Parks, which are gradually expanding to almost all Regions of the country.
  • We proceeded to the energy upgrade of the Gymnasium-Lyceum school complex and the adjacent indoor gym of the Municipal Community of the Municipality of Rafina - Pikermi, where the educational needs and sports activities of 1,700 children from the fire-stricken areas of the Municipality and the neighboring Municipalities are housed.
  • We donated 6 autonomous fire trucks to the Hellenic Fire Brigade Headquarters, enhancing the operational readiness of the service.
  • As part of the national effort to extinguish the fires that hit the country in the summer of 2021, we strengthened the air fleet by providing the Greek State with 4 high-quality BELL 214BI helicopters for 60 days.

  • We have set demanding targets to reduce our carbon footprint by -30% and decarbonize 50%
    (compared to 2019 data) of our Business Sectors by 2030.
  • We participate in the international Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as a member of Production & Manufacturing. We obtained the relevant certification by incorporating the commitments of Sustainable Development into the value chain of the Metallurgy Sector.
  • We participated for the third consecutive year in the "CDP Climate Change"  Sustainable Development Index, providing extensive information to our Social Partners on our approach to adaptation and tackling climate change.
  • We implemented a special programme: "Information and sensitization of the school community on forest fire prevention and response, forest protection policies and practices", in a total  of 52 primary and secondary schools in the prefectures of Attica, Viotia & Fokida with direct beneficiaries about 1,586 students and 102 teachers.
  • We informed 2,357 students and teachers of 20 schools in the Prefecture of Viotia on waste prevention, reuse and recycling issues, in the context of harmonization with the strategies of the European Union and Greece for the Circular Economy.
  • We gave the opportunity to 723 students of 15 schools in the Prefecture of Attica to take part in environmental education, to be informed about the problems facing the planet and the ways to solve them.
  • We reforested and planted trees in areas affected by fires, benefiting more than 3,000 citizens of the wider region.
  • We implemented an environmental program in 14 schools in the Prefectures of Attica and Viotia, informing 1,305 students and teachers about beekeeping, in order to get to know the relationship between bees and the environment.

  • "Regarding the use and discharge of seawater in our activities (cooling process of the combined heat and power plant of the Metallurgy Sector), the relevant legislative provisions that define the framework of avoiding any environmental impact are strictly observed. In addition, since 2012, in collaboration with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), annual studies have been carried out to monitor the status of Antikyra Bay under the applicable environmental conditions. The results of the studies are communicated annually as provided to the competent authorities (RIS and Water Directorate of the Decentralized Region). The conclusions of recent studies (2019-2022) show stable ecological status with improvement trends at several observation stations. These studies will continue for at least another five years."

  • No incidents of biodiversity degradation have been recorded from the Company's activities, while the planned actions for the restoration of exploitable areas from its activity are implemented on an annual basis.
  • We have restored 86.9%, increased by 6.9% from 2016, the entire exploitable area in the context of our mining activity.
  • We have reforested 1,018.5 acres, as part of the construction and operation of RES units. At the same time, we carry out annual monitoring studies of avifauna, while the movement of animals is not hindered as long as there is no fencing and disturbance to birds is also negligible, while where necessary, technical protection systems are installed.

  • We apply ZERO TOLERANCE to all forms of corruption and bribery throughout our activity.
  • We implemented two trainings for staff: the training on the protection of personal data (GDPR) and the training on the Code of Professional Conduct of MYTILINEOS.
  • We implemented 12 informative seminars in 10 cities of Greece on "Protect your Child from Cybercrime" with direct beneficiaries 3,166 parents & children.
  • We supported the Council of Europe's "One in Five" campaign  in Greece to end child sexual abuse. We undertook the reproduction of 20,000 copies of DVDs with the information material* of the initiative. The campaign visited more than 85 municipalities and 50 cities across the country and was hosted on 164 TV shows.

  • We participate in 15 major Sustainable Development initiatives and create targeted partnerships with academic institutions in the context of research and development.
  • We maintain constant cooperation with more than 20 voluntary and Non-Governmental Organizations for the implementation of our social policy.
  • Participation in 12 international ESG raters aiming at evaluation, good practices and continuous improvement.
  • a 3-year cooperation program with the Municipality of Livadea (community service program (2016-2018) offering material and financial resources for the renovation of public infrastructure, while at the same time  promoting the employment of almost 90 unemployed fellow citizens.
